Τhe Ermoupolis Town Hall

A beautiful building that adorns the Miaouli Square and is one of the largest and most imposing town halls in Greece. It was built in 1876 by the architect Ernesto Ziller and it has a distinctive architecture inspired by 3 different rhythms.

The Metropolitan Church Saint George

A georgeous church that was built in 1839 in the area of ​​Ano Syros in Ermoupoli. At the entrance to the forecourt area of ​​the church is the imposing marble bell tower, while the central arch of the church is adorned with the inscription that mentions the date of completion of the church, the patron, and the donors.

The church of Saint Nicholas the “Rich”

The church is located in the prestigious Vaporia district of Ermoupoli and is one of the most important religious and architectural monuments in Syros. Built between 1848 and 1870, the church is dedicated to the patron saint of Ermoupoli and is the third-oldest church in Ermoupoli. It is known for its lavish interior and impressive design, with twin marble bell towers and an imposing staircase, its Ionic columns, arcades and archaic motifs, but mostly for the inside of the church, where the detail is extraordinary.

A beautiful and picturesque church in ​​Galissa built among the rocks. It is located 15 minutes from the main beach from where a small path starts that ends at the small church.

The Apollo Theater – “Apollo” Municipal Theater

It is a theater located in Ermoupolis, Syros, that was built in 1862-1864 to the designs of the famous Italian architect Pietro Sambo. Its performance began on April 20, 1864, with Verdi’s Rigoletto.

The Markos Vamvakaris Museum

The museum is located on the central road of Ano Syros, Agiou Sevastianou Street. The museum opened in 1995 in a two-storey building, in memory of the prestigious musician, great composer and the leading personality in rebetiko music Marko Vamvakari. Many of his personal objects, such as including photographs, souvenirs, his passport, his identity card, clothes, and his pairs of shoes were donated to the museum by his family and are now displayed there.

The Metropolitan Church of the Transformation of the Savior

A memorial temple built in 1824 by refugees from Psara and Chios on an uphill road near Ermoupolis Town Hall. It is a three-aisled basilica-style church with a dome and two bell towers. It stands out for its impressive design, the black and white mosaic in the forecourt, its decorative painting, wood carvings, old icons, church furniture and exceptional examples of 19th century iconography.

The Archaeological Museum

The museum was founded in 1834 and is one of the oldest museums in Greece. Since 1899, it has been housed in the Town Hall of Ermoupoly. The museum’s collections includes Proto-Cycladic and Byzantine exhibits, sculptures and inscriptions, as well as an exhibition of archaeologist Christos Tsoundas.

The Municipal Library

The library is housed on the ground floor of a beautiful neoclassical building from 1863 in Miaouli Square. The first collection of 2,000 books was collected in 1926 from the library of the Syros High School begins, whereas the collection is currently estimated at 55,000 volumes. Various cultural events are also organized at the public library from time to time.
